I’m heading to Austin next week for some awesome music nerd times. Right now my schedule is looking insane (as it should), but I will definitely make time to check out all of these amazing ladies.

JUST TAKE SOME TIME TO ASK AROUND

Brooklyn-based Xenia Rubinos has a rich, acrobatic voice that she loops and layers in really intriguing ways. Because you can hear such a wide range of stylistic influences in her music, it’s difficult to associate her with any particular genre, which is perhaps why she’s being grouped with the avant-pop artists at SXSW. I had the chance to see her perform tonight, and she was fantastic. Definitely go see her while you’re in Austin.

ALL I WANTED WAS YOU

Ximena Sariñana is a long-time fave, from her Luz Clarita days to Amar te duele to her debut album and collaborations with Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Xime has been my girl. Now she’s about to release her almost all-English sophomore album, and I am pumped. She’ll be playing quite a few shows at SXSW, so make sure to fit her into your schedule.

Here she is performing “Wrong Miracle” at Mucho Wednesdays.

I’VE BEEN THINKING…

…about making my blog break a permanent one. Now that I have one of those jobs that requires that I be at an office from 9 to 5, I need to organize my time better. I have a few projects I want to work on, mainly my novel(s), learning how to garden, and getting involved in the food justice movement, so I think I’m going to stop writing here after this next week. I’ll give you a little SXSW preview of sorts with the ladies that I intend to check out while I’m in Tejas, then it’s peace out, y’all.

I will continue writing about (Latin American) music at Club Fonograma (the Best Music Blog Ever) and I will write about other things for other publications. You can keep up with my writing here, if you’d like.

Also, new strut song:
